Introducing local accounts
For a long time, our application has relied on auth0.com for authentication purposes. And with this release, we’re making the decision to move away from it.
We are public about the changes we make to Todo2d. If you want to know what has changed you can read it in the changelog.
The reasons behind this decision are as follows:
- We want Todo2d.com to align with European values regarding privacy and security. While we believe auth0.com reflects these values to our knowledge, we also want to go beyond that and offer anonymous accounts.
- Although Todo2d.com is primarily intended as a service, we want to have the flexibility to present it as a product as well. This is a long term question but we hope that in the future you can run your own instance of Todo2d.
- As developers, we want to have the ability to test our product when we have no access to the internet (rare, but we encountered it twice last year when working on a location that prevents internet).
With the release of r25, we’ve finally made this transition possible. While it does require existing users to migrate, we’ve made the process as straightforward as possible.
As usual here is the map of how release r25 turned out. There were a lot of tasks that were added as things went on. The next release will be a smaller one as we will be upgrading our technology and infrastructure stack, but also adding the ability to reset passwords.
